The Giant Panda

Giant pandas are endangered animals. They are 5 feet tall. They are black and white. The  giant panda can weigh over 200 pounds. They have 42 teeth.

They are mammals that have a four stage life cycle. The first stage  is embryo, then comes  infant, young adult, adult. When it is 18 months old it leaves it mother.

The Giant panda eats bamboo but that is not all it eats.  It also eats honey, meat, grass, vines, roots and spring flowers.

Giants pandas can only live in places where there is  enough bamboo for them to eat. That means if a panda stayed at a zoo for a year then they would have to have 10,000 pounds of bamboo. That is why they only live in China and 20 other zoos.

When a baby panda is born the mother panda is 800 times bigger than the baby. Its eyes don't open until it is 40 days old. It can't crawl until it is 3 to 4 months old.

When an enemy is coming the little panda climbs up in to the tree so it is safe.
