The male orangutan leaves its mother a few years after they are six years old.  Female orangutans stay with their mother until they are well into their teens.  When the mother takes the child swinging in the trees the baby has to hold on tightly or it will fall. Orangutans get their water from the rain, but when it is difficult they chew leaves to make a sponge to soak water into their  mouths.
